What will the wars of the future be about? Information access. Remember the early days of the web and certain entities charged for access to their boards? This is returning but in another form. The information will belong to those who can afford to pay for it. Those who can't pay will be further manipulated until insurrection occurs in one place after another. It will occur at faster rates than ever before in history because there are more educated people than ever before. The poor will be the educated who won't buy into the swindle but they will be overwhelmed by the amount of work being asked of them so that they will be distracted and miss the laws being enacted in one place after another to deprive them of their fundamental rights. Without the ability to curate, to hone insight, to turn information into the usable, whoever has the ability to flood the marketplace with un-curated information while quietly barring access to the key information with a pay-per-model will disenfranchise the masses. And on to this scenario the ability to use bots as human impersonators who can disrupt and sway the opinions and market decisions of users and you have a controlled population.
There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think… it's all about the information! – Cosmo, Sneakers, 1992
